Sammy's St. Charles Prairie State Criterium

Le Tour is over! It's a sad day for me, but at least I won't have to sneak in my EuroSport viewing every morning at work.  I'm sure Bevan Brookfield's eyes swelled when they played God Save the Queen during the final podium ceremony.  (How many among us wish they would have played the Sex Pistols version instead, or at least something by The Jam?)

We are having a taste of another future tour in our own parts with a race happening this weekend.  Here is some more info on that race.

--Beautiful Downtown St. Charles will be the backdrop for a summer Sunday of racing on Sunday, July 29th.

With the day's first racers coming to the line at 10:10a, Sammy's St. Charles Prairie State Criterium will feature Pro and amateur racing at speeds topping 35mph on a best-in-class course along the picturesque Fox River. The 4-corner, clockwise course will showcase the charm and beauty of St. Charles, Illinois.  The eight-tenth of a mile course will start and finish in front of Sammy’s Bikes and offer some challenges. A slight incline will lead racers into the final turn, which launches into a long straightaway crossing the scenic Fox River for the second time. A minor descent and the tease of a chicane will make for an exciting, fast finish.

Complementing the eight hours of racing before thousands of spectators lining the streets will be free family-friendly fun, entertainment, kids activities, a lifestyle expo, featured local culinary fare, favorite summertime beverages, merchant sales, and more!  The St. Charles Park District is coordinating the Riverside Family Ride beginning at 4:20pm, which will feature a lap around the "big kids" course right before the 90-minute Pro Men's race, which starts at 5:00pm.

Sammy's Bikes and Sammy's Cycling Club spearheaded the effort to bring this day of racing to the City of St. Charles.  The Sammy's St. Charles Prairie State Criterium is produced by Midwest Cycling Series, LLC, the promoters of the Tour of American's Dairyland (ToAD) presented by Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board, an 11-day cycling omnium across 11 Wisconsin communities every June.  The Sammy's St. Charles Prairie State Criterium will be the first race of the official Prairie State Cycling Series, which will be in full swing next July in multiple Illinois communities and feature the same caliber of safe courses, on-time starts, competition, payouts and professionalism that racers have come to expect and experience during ToAD races.
