International Cycling Classic - Homewood
Homewood’s quaint downtown and expansive shopping districts offer the perfect balance of tradition and urban flair. A wide selection of department stores, specialty shops, financial institutions, and grocery stores populate the shopping districts. The dining opportunities are countless with a large variety of restaurants boasting small cafes, outdoor dining, upscale cuisine, great pizza and well-known franchises. Downtown Homewood Rated one of the top ten best suburban downtowns in the Chicago Metropolitan area by the Chicago Tribune, Homewood’s downtown is anchored by regionally known restaurants, delightful specialty shops, and modern streetscapes. It’s an inviting place for pedestrians to walk, shop, eat, and chat with neighbors and friends. Downtown displays its historic charm in its Victorian era storefronts and modernized gas lamps. Brick-paved sidewalks make way to expansive shopping districts stocked with one-of-a-kind boutiques and restaurants. Visitors can also view the Richard Haas murals located on the rear side of the shops at Ridge Road and Harwood Avenue. Downtown is home of a bustling commuter station; Homewood Station accommodates both Metra and Amtrak train lines. On Harwood Avenue, at the east entrance of the train station, an informational kiosk identifies each downtown business in an effort to make everyone’s visit pleasant and easy to travel.
