I, your Illinois Cycling Association race reporter, could only get to the Tour de C-U for a short period this weekend (namely just for the Cat 4 women’s race on Sunday).

What's flat and four-cornered, yet scenic and exciting? That would be the Monsters of the Midway Criterium, now in it's 22nd year on the beautiful Midway Plaisance by the historic University of Chicago campus.
Race director, Katie Mann, gives us the low-down on this South Side Staple!

It has been busy this week at Casa Illinois Cycling. I, your Illinois Cycling Association Secretary, had a Canadian guest in town. Half Acre Cycling’s very own Cycle-Smart coach, Shaun Adamson, was sharing his wisdom at Half Acre’s Women’s Road Clinic on Saturday. Then I headed out with Shaun and some teammates to Kankakee for the Cobb Park Criterium.

This weekend there’s a wide open 4 corner crit on Saturday for the Tour of Champaign, a technical 8 corner crit on Sunday for the Illinois Cup Urbana Grand Prix and plenty of entertainment on Saturday night. Sounds like a good weekend to get downstate!

For the last two years, The Cobb Park Criterium has coincided with a popular ToAD race in Milwaukee. This year the South Chicago Wheelmen moved it earlier in the season, so folks wouldn’t have to make the choice to do one or the other. Which is awesome, because I want to do some ToAD this year, but also really look forward to doing this race, maybe because it was home to my first podium ever last year.
