In northern Illinois planting season begins no more than 2 weeks before the final frost. If a field is planted and the seeds begin to germinate, a late frost could destroy a farmers entire crop.

For Waterman Illinois, 90% of the time that final frost is around May 15. This means that planting season begins after Mothers Day.

On May 2nd this year, we will celebrate the end of winter and the beginning of planting season. Billions (yes, billions with a B) of corn & soybean seeds will travel on the gravel roads set for the 2026 course.
